Director's Message

In the process of our growth and expansion, I am particularly proud of the speed the facility keeps pace with new, emerging technologies.”

Xinkun Wang, PhD
Director, NUSeq Core

Welcome to NUSeq, Northwestern University’s core facility dedicated to state-of-the-art sequencing technologies. NUSeq provides genome/exome/transcriptome (including single cell and spatial) sequencing, sequencing data analysis, and an array of other genome/DNA technologies and associated informatics services to scientists at Northwestern, affiliated institutions, and external academic and biotech/pharmaceutical organizations.

Northwestern has a long history of building genomics research infrastructure through the Center for Genetic Medicine (CGM). In 2015, to better meet the surging needs for next-generation sequencing (NGS) at Northwestern, CGM created NUSeq by merging two highly related cores on genomics and bioinformatics to provide in-house services with the latest sequencing capabilities, and fully integrated bioinformatics support. After a decade of continuous growth and expansion, and thanks to a dedicated NUSeq team and strong institutional support, I am happy to report that NUSeq has reached unprecedented new heights, not only in terms of technology acquisitions and expertise, but more importantly, the size of our user base and the scientific advancements from the Northwestern community that we helped enable.

In the process of our growth and expansion, I am particularly proud of the speed the facility keeps pace with new, emerging technologies. For example, we started single cell sequencing in 2017, shortly after the technology became available. More recently, NUSeq, in collaboration with Northwestern's Center for Advanced Microscopy, Pathology Core Facility and Mouse Histology and Phenotyping Laboratory, began supporting spatial transcriptomics on multiple platforms in early 2022. NUSeq will continue to grow as the landscape of genome technologies continues to evolve, toward the goal of accelerating scientific discoveries in biomedical research and translating them into better health outcomes. On the translational front, to support the burgeoning Chicago biotech industry, NUSeq expanded operations in 2024 to Chicago's Fulton Market innovation district.

Visiting this website is a great step toward getting to know NUSeq and taking advantage of our technologies. I encourage you to connect with the NUSeq team and tour our facility to learn how we can meet your specific sequencing needs.
